Hi - just discovered all this today - boy I am glad thatI have the MSE site saved on my favorites - fair play to Martin Lewis - 'Man of the People' - I salute you.

Ok guys - basically I am after a few tips as I attempt to reoup any money owed to me from Barclays / Wooowich. Think I am ok with the letter that I need to send 'Dear Bank manager - give me back all my money you bas***d etc etc'

But seriuosly, where is my best starting point to send my letter to at the Woolwich ? or am i best to hand it into my local branch? Surely then the clock starts ticking, as you know the Woolwich are inj possession of it??

Also - who do I make my £10 cheque payable to?

Hi PJAshe and welcome. I don't think there is a right or wrong answer to your question, either send it to the Woolwich Head office at Jackson Road Clacton-on-Sea, or to your local branch (who I assume will pass it on to head office). Your choice, i personally posted mine to Clacton. The £10 cheque should be payable to the Woolwich, but they will more than likely post it back to you.

That would be a first - me offering them money and them not accepting it!

Are these people starting to feel guilt or something?

Does anyone know if charges for 'bounced' or 'refer to drawer' cheques taken into account?

yes bounced cheque fees are claimable good luck!

Thanks Cillit - I have another question which has cropped into my head, I am seperated from my wife, but have never got round to changing my account just back into my name - what way should I word my letter - 'I' or 'We' ???

I was thinking if I just used 'I' they would come back with some crap that ......'This is a joint account ' etc.
