Default Have i got a case?

i had a mobile phone insurance direct debit coming of my woolwich account.
i cancelled it but they were still trying to take the money out of my account
woolwich kept charging me for every attempt made by the bank. the total charges rose to £400.

the debt was transferred to a debt collection agency?

what can i do?

First who did you cancel it with - the bank or phone co or both and how - by phone or in writing.

You can claim thse charges back. But you can also claim for any charges in the last 6 years. Are these the only charges or are there others too? Have you got your statements.

Is the DCA chasing for payment? You can write and tell them that the 'debt is in dispute' Has the bank defaulted you?

Sorry for all the questions but answers will help to advise you.

The woolwich are by far the worst of all the banks.
35 pounds charge for unpaid direct debits or returned cheques on top of that they are trying to charge 3 pound per day on unauthorised overdrafts no matter how much the overdraft is for.
so a 1 pound overdraft would rack up 90 pound charges every month.
who do they think they are putting people in greater debt for minor issues is downright criminal.
I hope everyone who has a problem with the woolwich reports them to the financial and banking ombudsman.
Barclays are taking them of the high street but they should be taken to task before that happens.
