Default Bye Bye Woolwich

Barclays have announced today that they are to close down the Woolwich brand and all its branches.

It does not affect any claims however as The Woolwich is not a seperate company and it isn't ceasing trading.

The Woolwich is only a trading name of Barclays Bank PLC so your claims should continue as normal.

Is it that great.....

My girlfriend works for the Woolwich and now has to face loosing her job. It is not the fault of all the people that work for the banks... so please just spare a thought for those people.

As you can read on this site it looks as if you will get your money back. I'm currently claiming mine back from First Direct but i don't bitch about the staff as they are just doing there job...

Sorry but you hit a nerve.

I wasn't bitching about the staff - I was bitching about the Woolwich as a whole.

I'm sorry you're girlfriend is losing her job, really I am, but it doesn't change my opinion - I hate the Woolwich.

First, Woolwich branches will become Barclays branches.

The same helpful staff will be there to meet you at your new Barclays branch, so you’ll meet the same friendly faces, but with a different name above the door.

We’ll be investing in our existing Woolwich branches, bringing them up to Barclays’ latest standards. Converting all of our branches will happen throughout 2007. We’re looking at where our Woolwich and Barclays branches are located across the country and we’re working out where it makes sense to merge branches into one.

Here here Eddie, I agree with you. I'm sorry about your girlfriend.

Why would anyone need to hate a bank? Because they have been given a penalty by them for abusing their account...thats why.

If you get a parking ticket, you have to pay it - because you were abusing the roads, so whats the difference with bank charges?

But it is illegal to do so and the banks are now denying that their penalty charges are penalty charges.

However, I agree with you about resorting to abuse and revelling in other people's misfortune - absolutely no need for it at all.

It is not illegal it is unlawful.

solidstan1, I presume you work for Barclays. Have you sent a PM to Bankfodder or Dave advising that you are registered on this site? If yes, I apologise for asking, if no, could you please do so.

Thanks.

These bank penalty charges are being applied contrary to law. Therefore they are illegal. They are also forbidden by law therefore they are also unlawful.

Are you argumentative by nature?

Hey not at all, I want as many people as possible to be successful in reclaiming their bank charges, therefore it is worth using the correct terminology when communicating with them:

Unlawful .... Common/Civil law

Illegal ...... Criminal law.

Bank charges are Unlawful not Criminal, even though at times it feels like it!

Can someone please tell me what the Data Protection letter is that everyone on here is talking about? I know about the Data Protection Act but not sure what this letter is all about and whether it could be applicable to me?

I'm sure its on this site somewhere but I haven't got hours to read through all the many posts - even though they are very interesting!

Thank you
