Default unpaid item charges

Hi everyone,
I have a friend who has just incurred a £39 Unpaid item charge from Halifax, the amount in question being a measly £2! She is on benefit and if the charge is incurred it will halve her next payment, and that just before Christmas! Does anyone know what the best first step would be to try to get this charge waived or challenge it in some way. I'd particularly like to hear from someone who has had experience of Halifax in this respect.

The reason for the charge is irrelevant please start with the faqs, if thats the only charge she has ever had she may find that ringing and asking for a refund may work if not then she can go back many years. Please take your time to read through the self help material particularly the FAQs and step-by-step guide contained therein.

Then either you or your friend can start a thread in the halifax forum here: http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk.../halifax-bank/ and keep us informed of your progress.

There is a lot to take in at first but you need to understand what it is you/your friend is undertaking so as to not make any mistakes.

Thanks for your reply. I had a good read through all the FAQ material and it was very useful ammunition to have in reserve. I went to Halifax Bank earlier today with my friend and they agreed without much fuss to remove the Unpaid Item charge from her account.

Fantastic news, but if she has had any other charges over the last 6 years then you should tell her she can get those back as well
