Default Abbey - More Ideas For MY Money!!!

Hello All,

Just to say that, like many of you, I've finally lost patience with my bank. They've just charged me £110 for 3 transactions totalling £22 that put me over my overdraft limit for approximately 24 hours while a cheque was clearing.

No way. I'm not having that.

The stupid thing for Abbey is that I would've said nothing more if they had just refunded the charges this time. I would never have thought to have taken it further back to include ALL the times they've charged me, but after being insulted and hung up on by brainless staff in overseas call centres I have finally had enough.

I've sent the letter to get all my statements and a list of charges today and look forward to getting a response.

Cheers!

Tim

Hi - take a bit of time to read up first to make sure that you have the facts before going too far ahead. Read the FAQs and template letters then have a good read around here to see how others are getting on. Keep any progress on your own claim or questions that arise in a new thread in the forum for your bank to make it easier for others to follow and advise you. There's a set of links in my sig below that will help you find where all this useful information is. Well done for getting started!

OK. Got a letter back saying that statements and microfiche are on the way. Also mentions that they can't provide details of manual interventions. Guess I just wait for the statements and stuff to turn up?

Thanks a lot Sibbo! All the best for yours as well. Keep checking in to see how I'm getting on! I might be biting off more than I can chew here, but I've also requested statements from Capital One and Citicards who have both screwed me over a few times over the years. Even if it's just a few charges refunded it'll be worth it on general principal!

Well, that was easy. I didn't even get to the stage of sending a remotely threatening letter. They received my initial letter asking for statements, took the £10 and posted them out to me. I was just in the process of putting the next letter together when £150 in reversed charges was put into my account!

I still haven't received the microfiche records from them and they are still £60 short by my reckoning even before the microfiche records arrive.

I'm still going to pursue the microfiche records and the other £60 though!

Thumbs down Re: Abbey - More Ideas For MY Money!!!

Well here goes - I've just been stung by Abbey for £530 - mostly applied in one day after I'd deposited cash to help reduce my overdraft - they ate the whole £500 I'd deposited and then bounced more payments afterwards which of course had no funds to clear because Abbey were rebranding themselves again on my money. God bless 'em.

Letter sent and I'll post the outcome here.

Sorry - I've been really slack!

Here's what's been happening...

Abbey - put £150 in my account. Still haven't sent me microfiche records. I phoned to ask for them, they said they'd look into it. Asked me on the phone to say that I was happy with the £150 settlement. I said no way and that I wanted to review all charges they have made throughout the history of the account.

Citi Cards - I have now sent the Letter Before Action letter as they are refusing to refund £200 in charges. Their letter said that they have reduced their charges to £12 in accordance with the OFT's finding but that the change is not retrospective in effect and will therefore not refund the charges to me.

Capital One - I have sent copy statements requestion the £602 in charges be refunded and a default removed. I have not heard anything back from them yet, but the letter only went on Monday.

Just spoke to Abbey again. Still trying to make me say on the phone that I accept the £150 as full settlement. Have finally posted out the microfiche records though according to the bloke I spoke to today.

Sent a request for payment to Abbey for £356, which is basically the £714 they've charged me since 2001 less the £150 'goodwill' they put in my account on the 9th Sept and some other charge refunds over the years.

Looking forward to their response!

Hi, Tim.

If you now go the Abbey forum and start yourself a NEW THREAD, the good peeps making their own Abbey claims can keep an eye out for any queries you have as you progress.

It will be best if you do this because you will get "specialised" info there - they are the "Abbey experts", as they are already doing their claims from shaAbbey (as I think it is affectionately called!!). You may just get pot-luck here, as it depends on who's looking in. [For instance, I'm more an A&L type of guy!].

Good Luck, dude.

I thought I was already in the Abbey thread somewhere! I'm not up to speed on this blogging lark! Should I start again in the Abbey thread and include everything that's happened so far? I also have concurrent claims going on with Capital One and Citibank...

Cheers for post. Any advice welcome!

Sorry, Tim, you're stuck in the newbies at the mo!

Find the Abbey forum on the Bank Action Group 'page', click on and you'll be there.

You'll be able to find a blue box with 'NEW THREAD' written in it (sorry I can't do a link for you, I don't know how!). If you give the guys there a short version of what you've done so far, that'll be enough I reckon. Someone'll answer if you're stuck.

Keep your thread running as you have here so far, if you start a new thread with each question it gets confusing.

You may also want to start a NEW THREAD in each of the other two banks forums that you mentioned - or are you already doing that?

Hope this helps.
