Default Advice/Help with Halifax

Hello I have just joined the site today.
I have a query and hope that someone can help.

My daughter yesterday had her purse stolen at work. She works in an office on her own and popped to the toilet. She only noticed the loss some 3 hours later. She immediately phoned Halifax and by this time £1800 pounds had been withdrawn. This figured included a £1000 overdraft limit. She has never used her overdraft facility.

She has a meeting this morning a her local branch to sort it out.
Any advice or ideas as to the likely outcome would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Graham Turner

Hi Graham and welcome to CAG

I don't think your daughter will have a problem with this to be honest and I'm sure she will get her money back. I'm presuming that she reported the theft to her work and the police?

Can you keep us updated on this

Different banks have different policies-There has to be a degree of care by the account holder. For example if the pin number of a card was was with the items stolen-they would argue that the customer had not exercised their duty in maintaining personal security.

Thanks for responding so quickly. My daughter went to her branch this morning and it appears should be well. On 3 seperate occasions within about 3 hours an individual went into 2 other Halifax branches and withdrew £600 each time. It also appears that on no occasion was confirmation of identity ask for. It does appear to the outsider that possibly the thief had inside help. However, this is just speculation on my part. I also bank with the same Halifax branch as my daughter and each time I want any cash over £300 I am asked for confirmation of identity.

Can I once again thank you and another member for responding and I added this site to my favourites.

This is a little worrying though as this is obviously someone your daughter works with.

It would definitely be interesting to find out who it is eventually. You will let us know won't you?

Also, surely the banks would have security cameras running?

Yeah makes sense really but not really surprising that some people keep their pin number with their card - I'm sure no one from CAG would

Just to confirm when my daughters purse was stolen, no pin number was in her purse. It was the use of her Debit card, which the thief forged her signature to steal the £1,800. It would have been helpful if the Halifax counterstaff had asked for ID though. I hope the event has taught my daughter to trust no one and to be much more careful.
Regards.
