Default Do you recognise this number 01772688881?

I am phoned fairly regularly by 01772 688881, they only let the phone ring once, I have tried calling the number back and get BT call minder.
Does anyone recognise the number or have you received similar calls?
Many thanks,
Dibs

It's a Preston no. and you're not alone. See here:
01772688881 - who calls me?
but they are none the wiser. A possibility are Legal & Trade Collections who are in Preston

Ahhh let me just say this might not be as sinister as it seems.

A few years ago, i was being called by a number, and whenever i answered, the line would go dead - it was really beginning to get on my nerves.....

One day i had had enough, so called my phone provider - cant remember who now, and they did some investigations - It turned out that what was happening was this:

Large marketting companies are sold your details - They have a computerised phone system, that allows them to make lots of telephone calls at once, and the first "customer" that answers is transferred to a telephone operator and given the hard sell.

Luckily the person that was investigating for me, gave me the phone number to the company and a web address where i could go and fill out a form, and the website would, on my behalf, tell 1000's of companies to take me off their postal mailing lists and the phone loop thing.

This worked and for years i havent recieved a call like that. IS this what it could be for you? Maybe this is the reason u cant call the number back - the number is attached to a line, but the line does not take im coming calls, im assuming.

Kells

Thanks for the replies. I think you are right Kells, it's so annoying when the phone rings once and stops.

Kells343 is correct. It is a computerised phone system that multi dials numbers randomly. Only the first person to pick up will get to hear anybody on the line. It is probably no one sinister - perhaps just a cold call marketing call - but extremely annoying if you let it get to you. The remedy is to either ignore or immediately pick up & slam down the receiver again. The computer then thinks the call has been answered & doesn't re-call for some time.

Would 01772 577600 be another one of these? I've had three calls from these people each refusing to identify themselves other than to say they are phoning from Preston. Preston who I asked, Preston in Lancashire, I don't know anyone in Preston so who are you? It's a personal financial matter can you answer some security questions? No, not until you identify yourself, I don't have time to answer your questions I know your house number (23) so can you just confirm - NO - what is it about No you don't understand? - Phone goes dead!

Now, these people don't realise who they are messing with with me, they are taking on the whole of CAG AND the Cabot Fan Club by phoning me so I hope they are prepared for what's to come when I've finished with them.

The 2 girls who phoned said "they had written to me and wondered if I had received their letter" - no letters have been received. The obnoxious little twit that called this morning was not prepared to answer any of my questions, but wanted me - expected me, to go into free-fall and give him my name and address etc..Now if this is what is going to continue then there's going to be some letters going out to Trading Standards and the OFT because this is the beginnings of harassment and I really don't like people phoning who want a one way conversation... if this is YOU in Preston - welcome to the Cabot Fan Club!

I liked my dads answer the other day, a DCA rang asking for one of my brothers by his birth name (a name he always shortens) my dad told the DCA that if they contacted my brother could they pass on a message that his rich auntie had left him all her money and he needed to contact his father asap.

The DCA apparently tried all it could to get more info out of my dad about the amount left by the rich auntie and could my dad do something to get their debt paid first out of the proceedings.... my dad then said "can I record the next bit of the conversation as I can't write due to arthritis and have to record your details so the lawyers can contact you...." The phone then went dead...

This is the number of Regional Utility Services. They are a Preston based energy broker. They ask to give quotes for gas and electrcity supply. Be careful about what details you give out over the phone!!

Well, well, well! Sly dogs, seems they are claiming to be an energy broker to try and find people. I wondered why once they found out I was not the person they asked for they lost interest.

This lot used to be called Legal & Trade if that's any help and I found them to be the most obnoxious outfit I have come across short of Wescot.

They start with lies, and finish with lies.
