Car From Maindealer CAT A Writeoff

As the title suggests, just picked up a 05 plate Clio from a Benfield Renault in Newcastle and was told when we paid for it that it was HPI clear and they would supply the HPI form on pick but my girlfriend forgot to pick it up and didn't check if there was a HPI form. When she got back I went through the documentation to find an insurance receipt for damage repaired so I used my car check online and it is saying that its a CAT A write off. Does anyone know where I stand before I go to the garage tomorrow and start removing heads

Are you sure it is category A?

If so it is alarming as Category A means only fit for destruction, with no salvageable parts.

Category B means suitable for spares only.

Category C and D mean they can be returned to the road. However Category C vehicles must pass a VIC check - a physical inspection to purely confirm the car's identification before release of a V5 Logbook and not roadworthiness.

I am sure you will find the dealer - if they are a good one - will be happy to rectify the situation, so don't go in and start throwing things right away!!!!

Well it looks as though there has been a mistake with My Car Check as when I calmly went to speak to the garage they assured me that it wasn't a write off and done there own HPI check and it came back clear. Any way I'm off back tomorrow to have a chat to the general manager regarding the full story about the mixed up reg plates.
