Default Clocked Help

Hi All,

I was wondering if anybody could give me advice, I have done a search on the forum and cannot find anything related.

I bought a car yesterday, it was advertised as having 17000 miles on the clock. When we went to the showroom the computerised dash was showing 17000 miles, and overall the car looked about right for the year.

When I got the car home, I read the manual and was playing with the trip computer when I realised that the 17000 miles displayed was actually the no. of miles until the next service. On further investigation the actual no. of miles was just over 500! Having raised suspicion I completed an independant HPI check only to reveal that the mileage should be nearer 29000.

I am quite concerned as this car was bought for my 8 month pregant wife and kids and after reading some of the horror stories relating to the dealer I bought it from, if the mileage is incorrect what else could be wrong?

Can I reject the car based on this misinformation and the fact that the car's mileage is now at just over 500?

I look forward to your comments and thank you in advance for any help what so ever.

Pete

Hi, did you buy the car from a "proper" dealer? ie. someone with a car sales pitch as opposed to someone operating from home? Have you approached the dealer? How old is the car, and does it have an MoT?

29 is still very low. Personally I would take it back to the dealer and confront him with this. He should (but don't have to) HPI the car so he knows what he is selling and if it is stolen or has any outstanding finance on it.

Depending on the garages reaction to your declaring the mileage difference, I would accept goddies in return for keeping the car. You will get more value receiving material things than monetary.

You can reject the car for this reason, not as described, but you could do a lot better for yourself if you bargain.

Give the previous owner shown on the logbook a ring and see what he/she has to say about the car and it's mileage.
