Default british gas, penalising me for moving

hi first time ive posted on this thread, didnt think i would need to but we moved into our new rented house on sat 09-06-07 and it has prepayment meters in, ive never had them before but int he first few days i have had to top up the meters to the tune of £30, i rang bg today to ask to have them removed, but as they done a credit check on me which is less than perfect but ive always paid my gas etc ontime they refuse to remove them cos i dont meet their criteria but if i pay £95 they will change them.

i am angry at this as these bloody things werent put in by me and its not my bad debt at this address, and i want to pay my bills by direct debit but they wont let me instead they say they will send someone round to reset the meters, i have emailed energy watch to see if they can help, or does anyone know of any half decent suppliers i can change to? any help appreciated

Change suppliers! I know Powergen will change the meters after you have been a customer for 3 months and it does not cost you a penny.

The £95 is a deposit, not a fee. You get it back (with interest) if you pay your bills on time. They are allowed to charge security deposits or refuse new customers under their licence, so energywatch are unlikely to be able to help I'm afraid.

I can only suggest you follow Clare's advice and switch to another provider.

I appreciate that £95 is a deposit and i will get it back, but in 12 months!! i cant afford to pay any more money out at the moment hence why im claiming back bank charges and living on benefits 95 quid isnt easy to find.but i am looking for another supplier. just dont see why i should have these meters enforced upon me, for a debt by previous tenants, so new supplier it will be.
