Default Powergen Can they do this?

Hi im with british gas at the moment, but a year ago i went with powergen for a couple of months and didn like the way they work things.

I have recently got a bill from them for £90, the problem with the bill is i was on a prepayment meter and have been for 6 years.

I have made dozens of calls to sort this problem out but i just get past from one person to another. Its now finnaly come to a head as they have a debt collection agency on my back.

I was told by this agency the debt is due to them not getting round to change the meter settings to a higher charge when gas prices went up, "they were to busy as there are a lot of meters to change" thats what she told me.

What i want to know is do i have to pay this money as the way i see it, its there responsability to change it, and if they cant be bothered to do it i should not be hounded for it. Also the way i see is i was on a pre payment meter so that means i pay for my gas before i use it, so they should not be asking for more money for a service i had already paid for

what pp card were u paying on? was it a powergen one?
it is probably a case of missing payments they are a regular occurance and powergen have a team that deal with this.
ring powergen and ask to be put through to the LOSSES TEAM they deal with final bills the manager is called Jessica. threaten energywatch and they will jump through hoops to sort it out.
good luck

Hang on a sec, you say it is gas and not electric. Ok this being the case you have been lied too by the advisor you spoke too at Powergen.
The gas prepay meter is a quantumn meter, these do not need to be manaully reset on price changes (as do the electric token meter) they receive a global message that is sent out.

As Lindsay said it will be due to missing payments but in this case I suspect Missdirected payments which is when your payments go to your previous supplier. Dont bother with Losses as they do not understand the prepay meters too well. Phone 0800 479 2211 which is the gas prepay number and find out exactly what is happening. If it is missdirected payments their is nothing for you to do as Powergen will make a claim to BG for the monies, just ashame this process takes 12 weeks. lol.
