Default British Gas Electricity problems

Hi guys

Im having a hell of a time with these guys...when i first moved into my masionette over 3 years ago everything was fine...i was paying by DD and was even overpaying to the fact the credited my bank account with 100 quid.

Over the last year or more my quarterly usage seems to have rocketed...now im a working guy with kids that go to school so the main usage is at night..i questioned this and said it must be the meter and they said it would cost me for them to check it out.

The main problem is that the meter is not in my house but stored somewhere ...i dont even know and everytime i need a reading i have to ring the council to get th someone out and then they post me the reading whern done.

My bill now stands at 800 quid.... they wont let me set up a DD to help pay this off and said i must have a pre payemnt meter....which they want to put in the location of the meter that ive never ever seen... i told them that it was not an option as i would i make a payment to it? that it would have to be put in my property... they gave me a number and said they would give me a quote..i said who they said your supplier...i said your my supplier.... and so on...arrrghh i rang the number and they only work weekdays anyways.....

as ya can see im in a catch 22 situation...any ideas???

thanks guys

With regards to having the meter tested, if it is faulty they will refund you the cost of the test, so only have it done if you have exhausted every other possibility and and are sure that's the cause of the problem.

With regards to the direct debit, they would usually only refuse to let you set one up if you didn't keep to the last one, ie you cancelled it or payments bounced.

BG don't own the pipework to your property, if you want the meter moving it is the gas pipeline company in your region who have to move it and they can be very expensive.

Now im confused, lol. Are you refering to gas or electricity. I understood you refer to electric but Gonds reply seems to be in referance to gas.

Ah true, missed that. Substitute 'gas pipeline company' for 'electricity distribution company'
