Default Gas pre pay meter and now a bill?

I was at my mates house last week and she recieved a gas bill and she is on a pre payment meter.

I have now recieved a bill myself for £32.56!! and i am on a prepayment meter.

When my mate rang BG they said no you owe no money.
I shall be ringing them tomorrow

But Im sure I have read on here someone else recieved a bill like this.

Is it something that is happening alot?

And I am concerned for people who would just panic and pay these bills unecessarily, would British Gas be repaying them?

Strange you mention about BG bills whether this is relevant I'm not sure. My wife received 2 bills from BG and at the time we was also pre payment meter system. The bills together amount to £23.97 which was for the gas and electric separately.

I'm not sure if they are charging for the last few days before our transition to EDF dual energy or its the charges they apply weekly. I don't understand their pricing structure and how its implemented through the pre payment meter maybe someone could elaborate on this ....

Thanks for reading ....

I had my meter changed by EDF back last year ( Ive been on pay meter for years) They say there was a debit of £62 when they took this meter out and my usage has not covered the debit???

it states Ive paid £294 in credits.
Used £251. 92
VAT adding at £12.50

before this bill my account was £231.94 in credit.

This is an absolute joke. I dont get a bill fom Vodaphone when i pay as i go. I have pre payment meter, Whats the point if they are collating in the back ground and producing bills.

The bill states i made 2 pre payment meter payments and the reststate just payments.

Has something changed in the processing or Prue payment meters?
My meter was changed ( not supplier) April 06.

It also reads they only estimated meter readings at the point of cross over for the price increase. Now i have no way of proving they could have been wrong?

I'm so mad how this country continues to allow businesses to go ahead and take libertys with peoples accounts

I'm afraid this country has gone to the dogs ... ie dog eat dog world. I dislike this country and would prefer to live on a desert island away from civilisation.

Anyway back to this problem - the only suggestion I see is to ring up the supplier and find out if this is correct in which my wife will be doing tomorrow. I'm guessing these charges are the few days we had gas/electric plus the soddin VAT which stinks!

Hope you and I get somewhere with this and it comes to a pleasant conclusion. One can only hope!!!

Let us know how you get on with the supplier. First contact should always be made to the supplier as they make so many mistakes all you need to do is get through to somone who knows what they are doing and actually cares and it can all be sorted there.

Because you say your sorry to hear about my billing problems, fails miserably in an obvious cover up to just post a rude statement.

i have not had a bereavement, a fall, or something drastic needing your sympathy, its a phone bill.Your post in no different than taking confession and Sin again, just because you do good doesnt make a bad acceptable.

You activated reply and it was for no other reason to place a meaningless dig, with pointless advice when you have no ideal of my situation behind these posts.

You can not see my life through your PC screen, you have no ideal what my day encases and the fact that you have the thought in your mind that you can actually roam free to be so openly rude to a person concerns me greatly. So I have reported your post.

please have the decency not to reply again, but then thinking about it your a prime example of why so many threads on here turn into disputes and tasteless meaningless arguments.

Your quite obnoxious aren't you, May be someone should put you back in your cage.

I don't have Gas, bu tmy friend is on a pre pay metre.

I would find that annoying if you forget to charge the key and end up with no gas for cooking and heating.

Can you ask to have it changed to a normal metre?

yes it takes some seeking now adays to find someone who actually cares as you can tell from above.

But I'm grateful for the remaining replies i am ringing them now and will place a reply that hopefully will shine some light for others reading that are interested in the Gas Meter Problem.

Nemogbr
You can have it transfered back to the usually billing meter, but finding the amount in one go or saving the amount would be to much of a worry. i like my pre payment meter, some people say your mad for paying the extra i feel i can sleep at night and not worry when the bill comes in, apart from this one

when i first had the meter fitted i did forget to charge up, but now i have the days that £10 will run out more or less written in my mind. you may find its the same for you try marking the days it ends for a few weeks it will eventually come to mind naturally that Ex: wensday is top up day.

Have a go see if it works

Thank you Martin being a newbie i can only lead by example:

On Hold for Gas 15 minutes and counting, but they still want me to hold and my call will be answered as soon as possible.

Is that before or after the operator finishes knitting that wooly jumper

34 minutes, 1 reply and holding

OK result, you get advised its just for advice and there is no outstanding debit atall " not good enough" i want to know why i have this bill and why its innaccurate.

The debit comes from an estimated time of when they had not read the meter. I explained I was not happy and how can they warrant £105.50 as estimated use for 39 days, and If i chose to leave now i have an amount outstanding.

I gave a meter reading now and was advised no credit or debit as on my account, i have asked for confirmation in writting.

If you recieve one of these bills don't pay it immediately through worry.
Phone your supplier and have it confrimed of your balance by giving them the meter reading and asking them to check your account.
Then request they confirm this in writting for your records.

The biggest excuse and easy way to get osmone off the phone is to say it is only a statement and not a bill.; It is for advise only. What a load of rubbish !!! Honestly it is a balance of your account and you need to know why as it is payable and owed until it is resolved, if you move house or supplier this is the amount they will bill you and will be passed to a DCA if not paid. So better to deal with it now than later.

This is exactly what i explained and she denied it, so lets see if my letter arrives.
They are mad if they think i will walk away and allow them to play games with a balance in my name.

Hopefully this thread will help others who may land a nasty surprise.

i've had a couple of bills from electric and gas suppliers when i've left them even though i was on pre-payment meters

the excuse they came up with was that the meter had been set on the wrong price tariff and when they had a price increase they hadnt changed it.

customer services were very rude in the companies and basically said that since i had used the electric then i had to pay it but starngely whenever i asked to speak to a manager they agreed to take the charges off everytime evn before i got to speak to someone else

I recently had to call someone to fix my meter that wasnt working, and the nice chap said do you know you pay more per therm for your gas on this meter, apart from the sum taken for debt. this sounds totally unfair and unlawful, surely gas cost what it costs, paying off a debt is fair enough but why more per therm??
