Default gas payments

suddenly had a letter through the door, telling me my direct debit payments have gone upto £115.00 per month

this is a increase of £40 from the last months payment, the account isnt owing (much) money (less than £60) which i have promised them in a cheque, but they are refusing to lower the direct debit back to £75 or even an increase i suggested of £85.

theyve said this is because my consumption is £106 a month, which is very strange because appart from a £70 blip into debit over winter ive never owed them extra money before.

is there anything i can do because although there giving me the option to come off the direct debit this will give me an extra 9% a quater to find because of the discount for direct debit.

theyve completly ignored me when i pointed out that past consumption was high because we had a 26 year old boiler and according to the gas man who changed it a leak as well, we now have an A rating condensing combi boiler and consumptions dropped like mad....

is there anything i can do because thats more than 10% of my monthly wage and i just cant afford it!

Consumption of £106 per month? Thats quite a bit especially with a condensing boiler.

Have they increased their costs as it dosent quite add up or maybe an incorrect meter reading.

In your position I would record my daily usage at the meter then contact them with that information.

condensing boiler only went in last month bigmac before that it was a 26 year old back boiler.

i know that in 3 days the gas meter hasnt moved a unit so im not sure how they can say the consumption is that high..

only thing i can think of is that over winter the boiler had broken down so we had to use alot of electric heaters and i know that they eat power, i did explain both of the above to the lady on the phone but it got completely ignored

just got back from u switch switching from eon (the useless one) to npower, theyve said its likely to be a saving of around £250, and i told them i was on the old direct debit of £75 at that
