Default British Gas make a BIG error!!

Hi again

Just thought I would let you all know about a BIG error made by BG regarding my wifes account.

She owed £700 appx to BG. After numerous letters, phone calls etc she set up an agreement with them for £40 p/m via DD. She had a confirmation letter sent through saying it was all set up etc etc. No money, however, was ever taken. So they sent through a payment card with details of payment amount, frequency etc.

As a result of the HUGE mistake on their letter with said card, my wife hasn't paid a penny. Reason why to follow (bear with it, it's great!)

BG sent account to Westcott. Wife phoned BG and said "check your paperwork, it's wrong" She had big row with some sarccy so and so on the phone, then phoned Westcott to say what BG have done.

OK, BG sent this card, with letter saying:

"Here is your payment card. Payment details are £40 per month, first payment date 7th DECEMBER 2030!!!!"

That's right, according to BG payments don't start till 2030!! In black and white!! So she hasn't paid.

Westcott said, "Oh, um, then the account is in dispute, we shall hold any action, and get hold of BG and argue it out with them. Actually, we couldn't take you court anyhow, it would be BG. But we shall stop that as they have messed up"

Snotty cow on phone (from BG debt recovery section) said "The letter is not a legal document, and OBVIOULSY it's a mistake. You should have contacted us to point out the error. So pay!"

Interesting. Any comments people?

You can go to your bank & request the Direct Debit Mandate, and verify it.

Anyway the DDM will die in 13 months from the date of setup, regardless whether it has collected any money or not.

BG may spot the error & amend the DDM.
