guarenteed no debts on prepay-thats a joke!! help please, i have a house l rent. tenant AR moved in,the tenents said they wanted to use npower l said they had to have a prepay as the last tenent had left huge debts. they agreed this would be ok. l applied for a prepay meter and was told as the house owner l had to open an account (nothing signed) for them to put one in.the tenant could not do it. they guarenteed that there was no way i could have debts over £10 as the meter wouldnt allow it and would cut off the power. they then put it in and i couldnt buy any electricity, i then found i needed a card to buy the tokens. it didnt arrive for a good week or two.when it finally did arrive i bought £10 (2) tokens, they didnt work.(error) i bought 2 more, they worked ok. by then the tenants had moved in, and said they needed the card to top up the power whist they waited for their card to arrive.
anyway fast forward about 12 months, the tenents were asked to move out of the house as l needed it, they moved out 23.12.07. they gave me back the card and keys.
i bought 4 tickets (which again 2 didnt work) as the power ran out after 3 months (the house was empty during all this time) in this time we had to empty out lots of broken furniture and abandoned rubbish bags. they must have left probably 200 used electricity tokens piled on top of the meter, which of course i threw out with the rest of the rubbish.
my new tenent moved in 1.5.08 and said he cant afford npowers grossly overpriced electricity, can i have the meter removed. (no problem)
imagine my shock when l was informed that l cant have the meter removed until l have paid up £320 worth of debt. the meter reading is less than the starting estimated reading on their "bill" and i know for a fact that the only price increase in this whole time is one that occured after they moved out, according to the post they left behind.
npower insist l owe them that money, and they wanted PROOF that AR moved out, l only can say the neighbors held the keys for me until l could pick them up is the only proof i can get. what else can i do, l don't have that kind of money on top of my own power bills for the house l do live in. i was assured this couldnt happen...in the mean time i have had to give the new tenent my old card as he cant get anything done until its resolved. |
