Default Pay as you go?

Hi All,

I recently moved to a flat with a pay-as-you-go gas and electric supply. Although, the agency informed me about this the time that I signed the contract, nevertheless I decided to move in. Although, I don't really care if I will run out of credit on the gas supply, I am really worried on the electricity. I am a very busy man and I may simply forget to load my card with creadit. May I ask what happens then? From what they explain to me in the agency you have 7 pounds debt in case you run out. Is that true? If this amount will run out again, what happens then? Is there any way to increase this debt amount (e.g., 20-50 pounds?) Will the meter simply stop your electricity supply? If yes, and I will take care of it, what happens with the home appliances when the power comes back? From my knowldge, when electricity is being cut and then comes back to a home network, it create surges that can burn out the electic equipment. I am Ok with having a meter for my gas supply, but I think it is the most "stupid" idea for electricity.

Default Re: Pay as you go?

What you have is an emergency credit ........ once this has been used then you have no supply of electricity until you put more credit in then you are credited with the amount you put on your card less the emergency credit payback So if you put £20 on but you have used the £7 emergency you will then have £13 of credit on your meter.

However what I tend to do is put £20 credit on each week (the shop where I go for lotto tickets does the leccy as well ) whether all the credit has been used or not.

You can put credit in without the credit reaching 0 but I dont think that you can increase the amount of emergency that you have ......

Hope that helps

Hi thanks for your answer. So in simple terms, the emergency credit is 7 pounds and you can't do nothing about it. And what you pay/month sounds very high. thats 20x52/12 =86.6 x3 months (if you had a normal bill)=260 pounds. Unless you have a small business at home, what you are paying is simply too much and I suspect that this will also be the case for me. In the apartment that I am currently in, I have never paid more than 160 pounds/3 months. One last question, does the same day and night rate still apply to the pay-as-you go tarrif? Also, what about if you charge more to your card (e.g., 50 pounds) will it make any difference? Many thanks for your help so far!

Some weeks I dont have to put anything in ...... comes in handy when you have unexpected expences occuring

When you put more on your card it just means that you dont have to top it up as frequently.
Mine is the same tarriff all day ....... If your on what was economy7 then you have 2 seperate rates day rate set higher than the night rate
