Default Yorkshire Water

I have recieved a Summons in regards a claim by Yorkshire Water

The problem I have is the bill is estimated. I have asked them to read the meter and informed them I would pay within 7 days of receiving the bill. The amount claimed is an estimated amount.

The meter is outside and as far as I know they have never ever read the meter. They force us to keep the meter and as such I refused to provide a meter reading. Thats their job.

Any advice

Thanks

Sticking to a principle is very laudable, but if you let this go to court, you will have a ccj registered against you with the credit reference agencies.

Wouldn't it be much simpler to just read the meter yourself and send the reading along or pay the estimated bill rather than have a ccj messing up your life.

Connif

I can pay the bill. If I get a CCJ I will pay it and the CCJ wont count.

If you could answer the question asked that would be great

Unfortunately isiris the ccj will still be on your credit file, unless you pay it within 28 days, and apply to have it removed by sending the satisfaction note. otherwise it will just be marked 'satisfied'.

You haven't actually asked any question, just 'any advice' and I gave what I think is the best solution.

My view is that you should.

a) Read your meter ASAP

b) send the reading to the company

c) ask for an amended bill and then pay.

Otherwise you risk costs being awarded against you as well as paying the still estimated bill within 28 days of the CCJ to avoid ruining your credit record. The utilities are entitled to estimate bills provided they read the meter once in two years. They are allowed to put meters in even if the customer objects.
