Default Scottish Power

Hi,
I have an account with Scottish Power. I have found Scottish Power to be rather inept with a catalogue of misinformation and mistakes. In December 07 they increased my direct debit due to an estimated bill. I called them to complain and gave a new reading. During the call it transpired my account was in credit to the sum of nearly £500.00. Naturally I asked for this money to be reimbursed to me. Several times I enquired if the money owed was correct and was informed it was so I duly cashed the cheque. Now i have been informed it was a mistake and I owe them over £600. They are blaming me and said I misread the meter. I am an ex surveyor and have read hundreds of meters on void properties before surveying them. The meter was read by their operative in Nov 07 but they cannot find this reading. The latter reading would prove this latest fiasco is their fault. I would like to know how I stand legally. I would be grateful for any advice.

Send them a Subject Access Request then you can check through every action on your account and if they are being lawfull and within the legal scope.

I've just been through the same thing with Eon, they gave me an £880 refund as they were adament that I had overpaid. They then billed me for £680 saying they had forgotten to charge me for electric - dumb or what.

I complained to Energywatch and weeks later they said that Eon had to give me £50 compensation and allow me to pay it back over 24 months, but I had to pay it back as I had used the electric despite Eon's mistakes....not impressed but no chance of appeal

i have a prepayment key meter for my electricity , i have recently swapped from npower to scottish power now over the winter this meter has been costing me nearly £30 a week, it is now a little cheaper only costing me £18 a week which is still nearly £80 a month which is just too much i asked to have the meter removed so that i could pay for my electricity by direct debit instead, the bloke at scottish power said i needed to ring back in a couple of weeks when my account had been sorted and switched properly and they would arrange for me to have my meter switched , i have just rung scottish power again and now they are saying id have to pay a deposit of over £100 to switch my meter, is this right and why wasnt i told this the other week

You should of been informed of this on your initial call. Ask to speak to a manager but if this is now company policy the only option is to pay it or switch to a supplier that does not charge.

Scottish Power are a joke. I believe they are behind Sainsbury's Energy too.

Anyway, they sent me a bill for £46 after I dumped them and moved elsewhere. No itemised bill-just a letter showing £46!

I phoned them and asked for an itemised bill. They didn't do this but then sent a debt collector's letter to me and then started court action!!

To keep it brief, they wrote off the bill just before court, that was never proved at any time beforehand!

Idiots.

They are not governed by a CCA request, however they have to respond to a Subject Access Request.
