Default Hello all...advice please!!!

Hi everybody,

I'm new to this site so please be kind!

My partner and I have received a letter from SRJ Debt Recoveries claiming we have an unsettled electricity account with E.On dating back to 2004-2005 at a previous address where we were tenants.

This puzzled me somewhat as we used to have a meter which we had to put electricity on with a key. When I then called SRJ they advised me that apparently the meter had 'been fixed' and for the duration of our stay at the said address we were paying below the unit price.

We did not and have not ever received any correspondance to this effect from E.On, our previous landlord or the estate agents we went through.

I am currently awaiting documentation before I decide what to do but at this stage does anyone know if we're liable for payment?

That sounds rather slanderous. The power company would not have told them that. If the meter had been 'fixed' you wouldn't have had a call from a dca, you would have had a call from the police.
If they are infering that it was 'fixed' before you took up tenancy, then it is not your problem, you fed the meter in good faith.

Don't pay a penny until you hear from them again and definately don't phone them, you need all this in writing.

When you have heard from them, come back and tell us what they say and we can then take it from there.
