Default E-ON backdating price increase

I have just had notification of the their increased rates on 6th march, but inform me they are going to back date this to 8th February!!! er NO!
elec gone up 28% gas 20%.
I spoke to their complaints dept about this and they said tough you got to pay, so swithched to Atlantic and now paying less than before.
The point is how can they backdate charges? it must be illegal and certainly immoral.
its like any other service or goods supplier/provider they must niotify you in advance of any changes to your agreement or contract.
I am sure they will get away with it in many cases and people will pay!
If I had the energy I would complain to trading standards, but just switched suppliers and will not be the increased charges in the mean time.

hi i have had the same problem i have just sent my claim to energy watch who are the omsbudsman for this lot,
we agreed a price last year and they are trying it on with me for an extra 25.00 so i am now ready to begin a court action if neccessary to prove my point i did not sign any agreement that allowed them to add inflation to my bill so they can whistle also the service they promised service homecare 200 they tried to make out we had called them out for a service thus knocking off the 25.00 discount then they also tried to inflate the price, not on their nelly are they getting away with this they failed to repair a switch over valve that has been constantly stickin and said it was ok so i have had to do with no hot water for days on end,,,,see them in court WE PROVIDE THE HIGHEST QUALITY OF SERVICE my as* its must be about the worst case of embessalment ive come accross obtaining monies by deception as i see it

Unfortunately a supplier only has to ssend notification of increase within 30 days of the increase taking effect. This can either be before the date of change or after.

If it is after then you should be given the opportunity to change supplier and be billed at the old rate up until the date of change of supply.

Most decent suppliers will notify you before the increase.

I've just been checking up on this since British Gas 'revised' their prices.. They advertised a 15% rise, but actually doubled the night rate on our tariff.

However - there is a way of avoiding this (taken from Energywatch)
Quote:
They have to tell you if they are increasing their prices. You must be given notice before the end of 65 working days of the date of the price rise.

You also have to be told that you have the right to terminate the contract (by switching to another supplier). You have 10 working days after being told about the rise to tell them you are going to end the contract. If you do this, your supplier should not apply the price rise to you. If you tell them you are changing supplier but then don't, the price rise will catch up with you - the transfer process must begin within 15 working days of the notification being received.

This is contained in Supplier Licence Condition 23, sections 4, 5 and 6.
