Default Discrimination in the UK

Can anyone put me right?.

I live, work, pay tax in the UK, I use energy lake everyone in the European Union.

SO WHY CAN I NOT BUY ENERGY FROM THE EU?.

This may sound odd but just think, we supply energy to the European Union via the National Grid yes it still is there doing the same job it did prior to being privatised.

If I live in Europe it is possible to buy from any country other than your own or so I think, but if you live in Rip off UK you have to use a UK company, is that true or not?.

Anyone know the facts or are we all doomed to being ripped off for ever?.

I have no doubt we are being ripped off over energy prices (and pretty much everything else in the UK). However, it is interesting to note that many 'UK' energy suppliers are in fact foreign owned companies. E.G
NPower is owned by RWE (Germany), EDF is French, EON is German owned (I think), so in a way, you can buy from Europe

I understand many are owned outside the UK but do they charge the same price in the likes of France, Germany or Poland, I think not, in France they are capped & I can't see the Poles paying the same as us UK mugs.

Why can we not buy from France direct? we sell energy to Europe

Any ideas?.

I dont know what other EU countries charge for their energy. Maybe someone on the forum with relatives abroad could enlighten us? I am willing to bet it is less than we pay.

It's very difficult to compare like for like in these instances.

Anyway, if one wanted to buy an amount of electricity for domestic purposes from a company in Munich, for example, then how would it be supplied at your demand at flicks of a switch?

I have had a holiday in France where I drove a few thousand miles and the cost was much more than in comparison to the UK due to the amount of road tolls. The petrol wasn't that much cheaper too.

Income tax in Germany is higher than the UK. A pint in Norway is about £6.

All in all I'd guess most every country is as bad as each other although I would imagine the UK to be top of the rip off list.

Move to Fiji.

I suspect that the answer to your question is that from a legal standpoint, you can buy your energy from anywhere in the EU.

From a practical standpoint, there is nobody offering it for sale to you.

EU law is there to stop restraint of trade; it can't force trading to take place however.
