Default help with british gas

Hi
I am new to the forum, and hope someone can help.
I am in debt with British Gas as I was meant to be on one of their card payment schemes, the one where you have a payzone card and pay weekly.
Basically I just couldnt afford what they were asking for weekly and fell behind with the payments,I only work part time and am on minimum wage and have 3 kids ages 10 8 and 2 to support on my own
I have been threatened with cutting off my supply and have phoned to arrange a solution but have been told that the only option is fitting a key meter which will take £20 weekly in arrears before i even get any gas from it.
I just wanted to know if their is any way of them reducing the amount of arrears i put in the thing as there is no way i can afford this
thanks
Moll

I would ring up and refuse to let them bully you. I had a situation where a good friend wanted to go back onto a credit meter and has all sorts of missing payments issues (i.e. she's been putting a tenner a day on the meter and they say she puts a tenner on every four days!). Well the first call was 36 mins long, then a chat later with a team leader went on for 25 mins with no joy. Then finally got a call the next day from one of BG's managers - he's sorting the whole lot out by the end of this week. Anything can be done, just don't let them bully you otherwise - I was told no-one would say any different as it was "procedure"!
