Scottish Power - Demand for someone else's flat!!

Hi,

I am looking for a little advice with regard to Scottish Power. I have been harassed by them for a bill for nearly £360 for which I do not owe as it is for a different flat (which I can categorically prove as the meter serial numbers don’t match!!).

I have told them on numerous occasions that I do not owe it and to make matters worse it's based on an estimated set of readings!

After sending multiple emails I was told it was being looked at (told that over the phone to a few months ago) then I just got a debt collector’s letter demanding immediate payment or court action. I rang the debt collectors and explained the problem and closed saying I would happily see them in court if the matter was not resolved (the guy on the phone didn't quite know what to make of that).

I have now just sent Scottish Power an email with an invoice for my time spent on the problem and a threat of a small claim within the next 10 days if not resolved.

Anyone had any experience of how likely this is to make them sit up and actually sort this and also the odds of me being able to claim for wasted time/stress in a small claim against them?

Oh yes. Phone Energywatch (will list no below) and tll them whats been happening. I've just been through the same carry - was ignored until energywtch got involved then it was a turnaround overnight! They will at least break the deadlock and make SP move their pathetic behinds - they will advise you on the compensation thing but you should be getting something - make sure they havent registered any defaults against you also - I am doing that 2moro just in case.
