Default British refunded me then defaulted me for money unpaid.

Hi I moved house about a year ago. When I moved I called them to clear the bills. I gave the final readings and they said they owed me some money.

I received a cheque for the remaining balance. I moved house and recently got a copy of my credit file. It has a default from them for a non payment.

I cant beleive it. I am thinking of S.A.R - (Subject Access Request) ing them for all the info they hold on me because I am certain the default is incorrect.

Does anyone know who I should write to to get something done about it? The woman I spoke to on the phone was rude and she said she would send me out information on the final bill and I havent received anything.

Thanks

Ian

Firstly you can contact the Credit reference agency and tell them you do not agree with the information recorded.
You have the right to add a note in your file to say the entry is being disputed (a note of correction)This stays there for a period.
Ask the Cra to contact British Gas to ask them to give permission for its removal. At the same time you can also consider writing to BG yourself to ask the same.
A S.A.R - (Subject Access Request) should show the information that you require.
Its worth checking the other CRAs to see if BG have also recorded info with them,if so do the same.

If BG still refuse to remove the default info, and you can clearly show that it is adverse then you can look at other moves to force them to comply.
Keep us updated.

Send your Subject Access Request to their registered office.Keep a copy and send recorded delivery.
