Angry Npower Faulty Digital Electric Meter

Hi,

I recently received a bill from npower for a 6month period (as they didn't have my address right and passed it to power2contact - another story). They state that I need to pay £356.72 and that I have used near 3000 KW in 6 months.
I live in a studio flat, have gas heating that is paid for by the landlord and only use leccy for lights, water heater, oven, fridge, washing machine, pc, tv etc.
I'm very usage concious and alway turn everything off at night etc.
I called npower, explaining that it seemed ridiculously expensive and high and the girl said it seemed 'normal'. I said there must be a fault on the meter so was told do the simple test of pulling the trip switch, shutting everything off for 30 mins and then see if the meter was still flashing - it wasn't flashing but did have a red solid light on it.
Anyway she said they wouldn't send an engineer out unless it was still flashing and said it was right and I'd have to pay bill owed.
I've worked out that I've used a further 373KW since they billed me (oct 4th) in the period of 14 days! is this right? am i being thick or is this amazingly high? there must be a fault! or at least i'm supplying electric for all the night lamps on my street!

anyway, opinions on this usage reading would be appreciated, as being my first time away from home on my own paying my own bills i'm a bit dense with these kind of things.

Thanks in advance.

That's more than 26 units a day, no way is that normal! I live in a one-bed flat, with electric cooker, several PCs always on (OH is a computing student), as well as all the usual appliances, and my consumption is usually between 9-12 units per day, depending on the time of year.

thanks for your help guys. npower are sending out a techie guy now next week to look at meter. done some research and have been told they have to completely remove meter and then provide me with report after checking for faults, so we'll have to see what will happen!
account is def in dispute and also refused to ring up with daily meter readings on grounds that my phone bill will be larger than their leccy bill!!! am keeping notes of daily meter readings instead - meter has gone up another 200KW since posting thread! hahaha!

my mom's 2 bed house uses 512kw/h per quarter so am definitely sure my meter is faulty!!!!! 3000KW in 6 months!!!!!!
