Default Prepayment Nightmare

Hi

When we moved to our new house there was a prepayment meter in it. I wanted to get rid of it but my wife thought what a good idea paying up front.

Anyway after about 6mths we changed to another supplier for both Elec and Gas which are both on prepay.

The long and short is now the previous supplier is saying we owe them money, how I ask we prepay but they say it's do the the time it takes to change supplier. However even if it took 3 months we still would be prepaying someone for you elec as if we ddon't credit the meter we got no elec. I have told the previous supplier that the new supplier must have the credits they are looking for, so am I right? Or do I have to pay again?

Please help!!!!!

At my wits end!!!!! Phones calls everyday!!!!!

Were there any debts pre-loaded on the meter from the previous occupier that should have been cleared?

Were any readings taken when you moved in?

If prices went up, they might have been charging too little. Otherwise your new supplier might have some of their money

Time to write asking for a detailed expaination. After using them for only 6 months that shouldn't be too complex for them!

I suspect the money will be in a holding account, we had the same problem and after getting over 100 letters from various DCA's and the same in telephone calls we got the ombudsman involved they sorted it the same day. I was determined we would not pay the money again.

Get in contact with Energywatch who should try to resolve thsi with both suppliers for you.

The money goes into a pool with the local distribution company and the suppplier uses a MAP14 (industry palance) to obtain the payments. The supplier is notified via an industry flow of any amounts paid along with the date it was pai.d It is all referenced to a PAN number.
