Default Can British Gas do this?

I got big bills from british gas for both my gas and elec in the quarter after christmas last year. Ive been paying £50 off each every month since, plus they added the next quarterly bill to the balance. Now, out of the blue, Ive received a letter from Commercial Collection Service asking for the total amount outstanding to be paid by 30th August.
I haven't missed any payments, and I have had absolutely no notice from British Gas that they were going to sell the account on or any reason why.
Can they do this for no reason?

ok if you been making regular monthly payments to brit gas, i'd just ignore the DCA for now,
as long as you been making regular payments thay can't take you to court for non-payment. my dad had sim prob with another supplier, the DCA persisted a little too much so i stepped in with couple coloufull letters, never heard from DCA again.

an alternative is do sent a CCA letter with £1 fee (this option prob better and make DCA run off faster) send by recorded and make sure at top of letter in bold I DO NOT ACKNOLEDGE THIS DEBT

So what should I do then? Just ring BG and ask them what the hell they're playing at?

If you can face their call centre staff on a lovely sunny day like today you are a better person than me

Really that is your only option - or try the DCA first.

Too right....... Got back from a short break to a nice letter with a heading "LEGAL ACTION BEING ARRANGED"!!!!! The misses normally sorts out the bills but she couldn't be asked so I volunteered It went something like this:
"have you got my account on screen"
"yes"
not going to repeat this bit .... but
"can you please not swear sir!!!!!!!!!!!"
This is the latest in a long story, been reported to the regulators once allready, shall be calling them again, this time I want them to wipe the bill so I can bugger off to someone else (it's not a lot in dispute) I've had enough of these to$$ers and since i've been reclaiming bank charges with help from this site I have little time for the big companies pathetic customer service....... It's WAR
