British Gas are driving me mad

In March I left BG and paid my final electric bill. I had on line billing and the account was paid up. They took my final gas bill out of the amount I was in credit. I rang and confirmed that I no longer owed them anything and they agreed to refund the overpayment on my account. Now 3 months down the line they have sent me a bill for £179.30 which they say if for my Jan to Mar bill.
I can no longer see the bill that was cleared in march and have no paper copies. I do not want to pay a bill that I have already paid. Rang bg they don't care, as i cannot produce the bill I paid they want me to pay it again. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Can I put the account into dispute and Subject Access Request them, I don't want them to put this account to a debt collector as I have worked long and hard to clean up my credit file.

Any help would be really appreciated.

You should be able to get copies of your bills. If they don't threaten to take them to energywatch. :P
