Hi everybody.
several years ago i made a payment on my debit card to aol on behalf of my friend as he had missed his monthly payment. Since than they have continued to take 15.99 a month and i have only just been able to stop it with a hell of a lot of greif. I didnt agree to or sign a continuous card payment and i want my money back but they say it is my bad luck, what can i do.

What kind of debit card? If it was a VISA debit card, you should be able to initiate a chargeback through your bank on the grounds that it was an unauthorized transaction.

On the other hand, since you don't say that they were charging both you and your friend, can't you just ask your friend for the money?

You've caught AOL out! Your bank should credit you immediately as you had no relationship with AOL other than to make that single payment.

Yes, but if they were only taking it from you instead of your friend because of a mix-up, then really it'd just be easier for your friend to reimburse you.

Hang on - there was no commitment, no agreement to continue paying by this method. The friend probably didn't even get a chance to pay the bill normally, Carphone Warehouse just muscled in on the number they illegally retained. If they're not made to pay it back, they'll do it to others.
