Angry Sky- No Deal

hi, wundering if anyone is having as much trouble as me with SKY package?
phoned to order 8mg broadband; 6 mix channels; free wkend and evening calls; free instalation and box; sky talk all for £20 per month!
Box was instaled on 23/03/07 then I phoned to see what was happening with modem for broadband to be told my area is NOT unbundled so I can only get 2mg and it will cost an extra £6 per month - I told them to cancel the whole lot - not acceptable on the phone have to cancel in writting and must be within 8 days. I sent cancelation on 29/03/07 rec, lucky for me within 8 day cooling off period. They phoned to arrange a pick up of box didn't arrange a time or date and haven't seen them since.
Today 1/05/07 get letter saying I'm in 12 month contract, I emediately checked bank statement they have taken £21(don't know where that figure came from) and I cancelled direct debit.
Have phoned them 5 times today trying to sort this out to be told I am stuck with the 12 month contract and to write to their head office in livingston and try and get them to cancel.

I'm so fedup of companies thinking they can do what they like
Has anyone else had as much grief and how did you sort SKY??

Took them to Court! They were totally unresponsive and told me it was their way or no way. The settled in full 2 weeks before the case called.

Last weekend I went to try and sort out the Sky Broadband of a work coleague. He has had the installation since mid March and has spent over four hours on their support line.

They sent him another router but the problem remains. He has has an expert on the case from the local computor shop who concluded the same as me. "No Broadband comming down the BT line". My own checks with a known working modem confirmed the above.

I telephoned Sky Broadband on his behalf and went through the whole of their procedure again only to be told they would have to check the line which would take 48 hours. I asked if they would respond with the results of the line test which they agreed. Needless to say they have not responded and still no Broadband.

Also the installer has connected the coax from the dish to the house side coax of the Cable Companies box on the exterior wall to save having to run a new one through the house to the tv. To do this he had to break the seal on the box.

I am starting another thread seeking opinions on the position my friend is in and the best way forward to terminate the contract.

Hi lornac
I've just posted a thread under 'Sky Package (No Broadband)' as I've had similar problems. Good luck.

Hi dw190, SoB and everyone else out there trying to get customer service which we as consumers shoul expect and NOT have to fight for. I sent another letter to SKY letting them know that they were in breach of contract and were miss selling their great deals. I gave them 14 days to cancel my SKY and return monies taken or else I was taking legal advice.
Suprise SKY was Cancelled money returned 8 days from date of posted letter.
It can and will be done!!

i have been in contract with them for a couple of months now. they are terrible. trouble is my only tangible issue is slow speeds, can i legally end my contract with them due to this.

pings are poor, and traceroutes often show 200ms responses along the route.

is there anything i can do to get out of my contract.

i have emailed them 4 times regarding my speed and never had a response

Probably not - you'll find you have no right to terminate baaed on speed (or lack of) due to the products being sold as 'up to'. Just serve notice that you plan to leave when your contract is up, and look forward to that!

3 months into a years contract its not much to look forward to. I might find out how much it is to cancel. Surely i can pay that then claim it back as an unfair charge?

How is it unfair? They never promised you a max speed, and even if it crawled they could still say you had BB and they agreed a limit 'up to' the package you signed up for. To claim it back, you'd have to take it to court as they won't pay out voluntarily.

Alternatively, check what is says on the contract, and advise customer services you're unhappy with the speeds available to you, they just might do something.
