Default NTL broadband

Just a little heads-up for anyone on NTL (now Virgin) broadband. As you know, it's around a tenner for the first year, then goes up to 18 quid after that. Always seems the wrong way round - surely they should be rewarding loyal customers.

Anyway, I've been with them for around 18 months, and figured I'd give them a ring, see if they'd put me back down to the tenner/month rate. The first time I rang I got the usual "I'd love to put it's not within my powers"
.
I rang again the next day and got someone else, a pleasant friendly chap, and this time he was more than happy to put me down to a tenner per month - I didn't even have to use my line about 'I'm considering switching providers'

I can't imagine that the guy I got the second time would be risking his job by exceeding his authority, so it seems as if the 'it's not within my powers' line is just a standard excuse.

My suggestion would be to ring a few times until you get a helpful phone monkey.

Hi WebMaster

I argee with you, it all depends on who you talk to and what mood thet are in.

I have, and continue to receive, a £4.50 rebate on my B/Band. Because I took TV/Phone package at a later date and thy couldn't/wouldn't merge them to get the 3 for £30.00 deal.

I am receiving a £10.50 a mounth rebate on my TV service for the loss of the 4 Sky channels.

I have also received a number of goodwill gestures, refunds and bill adjustment to do with some missing bills, totalling £60.00-£70.00 so far.

I find evening are the best time to call on the 150 number, between 6.00 and 7.00pm, it may take a while to get through.
And if you start the call with:

"I know it's not your fault but" or
"I know you are only doing your job but" or
"It's nothing against you personally, honestly, but"

Be polite but firm with a few helpings of the above.

You will surprised at what you can get a way with.

I shall be trying this later on, as I've just held for twenty minutes to speak to someone I can't understand.

I've always found that NTL (vigin) have always been okay when i've asked for a deal on my BB and telephone, i've been with them for about 7 years now and for the past year i've been getting my phone line rental for half price and my BB (10 Mb) for half price, i just ask for retentions when the phone is answered.

How much do you pay in total?

The thing that really gets me is I have to phone them, and I was on hold for so long to retentions (holding) that I gave up. That tells its own story I think, if I have taken the time to send a letter the least they could do is repond.
