Default BT Mobile no bill for 12mths

Hi!

I've just discovered this forum and wondered if anyone can help/advise....?

I have a BT Mobile contract, suddenly in Feb06 BT stopped taking my monthly DD's. I first noticed this in April 06 and notified them (via email) and contiued to do so every month until Sept 06. Each time the email was acknowledged and was advised that someone (from their 2nd line team) would come back to me - they never did. On each email i've requested that they don't just DD the lump sum that must be accumulating every month, but notify me first. I called them in Oct 06 only to be advised that there's no record of any calls made from Feb - Oct 06, bit a black hole syndrome apparently. So anyway I've continued to use the mobile phone, then suddenly last week I received a monthly statement billing me for Jan 07 and also thanking me for my payment of £461.

Yes, in their wisdom they suddenly have got their act together, found my bills and took the direct debit for the whole year without giving me any warning. They reckon they sent me a 61 page statement in Jan but I've never received it. They sent me a copy which arrived this morning and to be honest I can't understand it, there are some odd things on there like an adjustment error for last April.

Anyway I spent a good hour talking to various BT people last Friday once I'd got over the shock of the £461 debit (yes it took my account overdrawn). The current situation is after some negotiation that they will reduce the bill by £60 for the inconvenience. Under their advice I've made an indeminity claim and retrieved the £461 until we can agree.

Really I think my question is... Is £60 fair compensation for the inconvenience? It really frustrates me that I told them for 6mths last year about THEIR problem and they couldn't resolve it for a year and left me to pick up a large bill.

Any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Steve

Don't allow anyone to have a DD on your account. It really is that simple.

Thanks for your feedback. I'm speaking again with BT on Tuesday.

I think my frustation with them is because I wasn't getting a monthly bill, I couldn't monitor my use. Additionally, the annual contract i was in seems to have altered slightly last Sept (which was it's anniversary) so i need them to explain that to me.

Could be a long conversation on Tues...

Thanks again for feedback.
