BT bill and CRA

A while ago my b/f couldn't pay his BT phone bill
i only found out when the letter of the CRA dropped though the door now i payed it for him (cause i am the best g/f ever)

it amounted to £518.91

this is made up from BT Bill £324.99
25% was added as charge for non payment £82
Comerical Credit Services charges Court Fees £60
Solictors fees £50
Statutory Interst £2.67

the letter of CCS was titled Notification of Legal Proceedings ( i payed so i don't think it went to court)

I'm just wondering what ppl think of this??
Should i or can i do anything

I think you've been ripped off! This is a classic ruse to make people pay up and is very profitable for them. You can ask for it back ,but you are in a weak position, as you paid it first without question. However, they do appear to have gone over the top - inflating a £324 bill by almost £200.

Ask for it back - saying the charges were paid in error, as the amount asked for is punitive and does not represent BT's loss or their charges. If they donlt respond, raise a Small Claims action for the amount disputed (after sending a Lettrer Before Action). Next time, don;t be so quick to get your b/f out of trouble!

umm what does punitive mean??

this website is excellent!!! i thought is was being good paying all these things etc now find out been basically taken for a ride since i opened a bank account!!!!!

Yup - if you knew then what you knew now....! The site helps because someone on here has probably suffered in a similar way and knows a wrinkle or two that helped. The worm has turned, and we can fight back on our own terms. It just makes you feel soooo good!
