Default Telewest incorrect default

Hi

I wonder if anyone can help me?

I recently checked my credit file after receiving a number of declines on new bank accounts and credit cards. I found that Telewest had defaulted me over 4 years ago.
I am confused as i finished my Telewest contract over 5 years ago owing nothing.

Can anyone help me with this matter as its affecting me with ref to getting any sort of credit. I am not willing to pay the default amount as i dont owe them nothing.

Thanks in advance x

The first thing you should do is write to Telewest and request further information regarding this default, why it was placed on your file in particular if your account had been closed a year earlier.

I have seen templates of letters on this site regarding removal of defaults but i think im right in saying that telecommunications dont have the same T&C of a bank so i am wondering if anyone knows of a letter that i could send.

Thanks in advance as i am desperate to remove this as it is unfair

The only default a cable company can place on your account is that you left them owing money, it does not have the same standing as a CCJ or CCA default, so is unlikley to be the cause of credit application rejections, especially so long ago.

You really need to contact NTLtw for the details, either by quoting your old account number, or sending a Subject Access Request, but try the first option and see if that provides the information you require.

Many members have incorrect defaults by telewest.
This link has many situations.
http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk...%A310+telewest

Subject Access Request's are ignored and communictaions in Telewest are none existant.
The only way to turn this around is if we continue kicking.

I have a default i want removed and I belive my charges over 6 years are in the £100's and i want every penny of it back.

If you have a Default theres a very high chance they have your charges too

Good luck

Notwithstanding the above posting, Telewest are now owend by NTL, and Subject Access Request's are not ignored (this leaves them open to enforcement action for non-compliance). Suggest you make the first move, and update the thread with the results.

So do you suggest i just pen a friendly letter to them advising i dispute the default due to the fact there was no bill when i left them.

I have no account details from them as it was nearly 5 years ago.

Weelll, if you had your account details it would have been easier to phone, but they still might be able to trace you using your old postcode. They might be able to give you an idea of what the problem is/was, and who best to write to should you wish the matter resolved.

Lavlou1974, I had the same problem with Telewest about five years ago. I had service with them and found out that I had a default on my credit file for around £1,200 pounds I wrote letter after letter in which they refused to removed the default. After getting fed up with being refused credit (I have a perfect record other than that) in December finally made a claim against them. I asked for 800 pounds in damages for their refusal to have the default removed. They filed an Acknowledgement of Service but did not file a defence so I won by default. However, they have yet to remove the default and I have yet to receive any money. About the two weeks I sent in the baliffs and am awaiting the outcome of that.
