Default BT price changes...

Hi all,

On the 20th December BT have hicked up their prices for telephone extension sockets, the charge used to be around £110 for 1 socket now think its nearer £150 or £160 for 1 socket. (Ouch!!)

It's cheaper if you can B&Q it or get a local spark to do the work instead.

hi there, I work at BT in 150 (general customer services), this is correct about bt hiking up prices from £110.46 to £162.16 for an extension socket.. the price for the actual extension has stayed the same but the charge for engineers visit charge has increased. We do promote local electricians to do the work as long as it doesn't involve moving the main socket. a word of warning to those of you who report a fault though.. because engineers are now part of BT Openreach (split into a separate "company" so fair access to all service providers), they bill your service provider which can be bt or whoever and the charge ex VAT is now £95 instead of £55 ex VAT. ps anyone charged a Late payment charge by BT is waived the first time without question (BT policy), waived/refunded a second time if you set up a DD but then no more so Try as much as you like with this one!!!

You do realise now, I hope, from looking on this site, that these late payment charges are unlawful full stop, and should never have been applied in the first place, though...

Agreed. I've taken Sky and NTL to court for these charges and won before the case called. BT can impose all the charges they like, however they'll look pretty silly when they're challenged as unreasonable by CAG members (and others). I suggest you pass on to BT management that the future of these charges isn't rosy....
