Motor Insurance scam I would be pleased to receive comments on the following:
Earlier this year, I was involved in a minor road crash, which was my fault. The vehicle in front stopped rather quickly and I did not react quickly enough, so collided with their rear bumper. In fact the impact was so slight that I wasn't even sure if there had been a collision! The person I 'hit' has made claims far in excess of any injury they could possibly have sustained, and in fact had they sustained any significant injury, I'm certain that I would have had a cracked front number plate where it was the point of impact with their towbar and at the very least I would have expected the air-bag in my vehicle to have inflated!
All of this was related to my insurance company (CIS) who instructed a company called Robins Claims Solutions (in Birmingham) to act for us and they in turn have passed correspondence on to a solicitor in Manchester, last October. I have just received a Judgement For Claimant (amount to be decided by the court) letter from a Court in Liverpool, as they say no defence has been filed.
What concerns me is that my name is now being bandied about the Courts as though I am guilty of some heinous crime, and am liable to pay the other party some vast amount of money, yet to be decided in my absence. Frankly I don't care if CIS foots the entire bill through their own ineptitude, as long as my name is kept clear of the action, but I do feel that it is for the insurance company to pay if judgement is found against, as that's what I have comprehensive insurance for.
I spoke to Robins Claims Solutions on the phone, and the guy there said that I should forward the latest letter to them by RM Recorded Delivery, which I have done. He also mentioned something about deferment, but having spoken to the Court Office, this has not been requested. They also suggested calling back in the middle of January, if nothing else was forthcoming.
Is this just procedural shenanigans, or should I be worried that we have a rogue solicitor who is more lazy than most of them? |
