Talking i-phone insurance scam - a warning!!!

My daughter took out a contract with Carphone warehouse on Monday and within minutes of activating the phone, was bombarded by calls trying to sell her warranty insurance - despite having refused to take up the CPW offer of £39 per quarter in the shop!

One call was quite aggressive and they clearly had her details, which she was asked to confirm and in the confusion, did so, resulting in £90 being lifted from her account!!

The 'company' concerned are Marketing UK Ltd T/A Cellsure and based in Swansea - their HELP LINE number is 0844-884-8824.

Having done some checking around, looks like this crew and many others are pretty busy people and there are lots of similar cases being reported.

The question I have, is WHY DO CPW NOT WARN NEW CUSTOMERS ABOUT THIS - they are aware that it is happening and a cynic might deduce that someone within CPW is passing (selling?) customer data for such purposes....

One 'version' is that the scammers (a polite term for scum bags) buy a phone themselves and then call loads of numbers higher and lower than the one they bought, hoping that lots of these numbers will have been sold to other customers in the same Branch...
Personally, I think this is utter B$£@^&*%s, as the speed with which she and others have been called suggests that they have the data and can get to you within minutes of the phone being activated!

As an active consumer and CAG member, with a large crew behind me, I will be pursuing this one and fully expect to return the money to my Daughter's account in the near future

Good luck MrSooty. If the "buying a phone and caling the neighbouring numbers 'version'" you talked about is correct they'd not have your daughters details.
