Default vodafone / identity theft worries

Hey,
Maybe some of you can help me with my predicament.
I recently received a call from an 0800 number with a man saying that he was from Vodafone and offering 25 pounds credit for an agreement to extend my contract by 6 months. It sounded legit so I went along with it. I then had a change of heart and rang vodafone and asked them to cancel it. Of course they had no record of this exchange and didnt know of any offers resembling this. I am a little worried that this could be a case of identity theft.
The only information I gave to the guy was to tell him my name, my address, and my phone number.
The other explanation that has been suggested by my mates is that it could be a 3rd party mobile phone reseller trying to sell me an alternate contract. But I bought the phone and signed the contract in a Vodafone shop, so that seems unlikely. I checked my phone to see if I still had the 0800 number saved but alas, i has wiped it, and when I rang Vodafone they couldnt tell me what it was. Any idea how I can find out who this was?

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,
Ed

hi ed.
contact vodafone again. they should have a fraud or theft department that you can make aware of the situation. that should cover you if the guy trys to credit things to your account. my other half works for them so if she can give ma any more advice for your i will post it. she is in work at the mo. will post later if ican offer any more info.
cheers.

hi mate. spoke to my missus and she said to berate you for giving out any details to someone calling you. vodafone will never ask you for details if they call you. she said other than doing the above, their is not a lot you can do, but she did mention that other moby companies do call like this and try to fool you into giving them enough info to transfer you to their network without realising. wont mention any names but one of them began with O and finished with 2. sorry i cant be more help, but good luck

thanks for the replies.
Yeah, I usually dont play ball at all with cold callers and usually pride myself in my ability to detect a scam, but this time I let my guard down it seems. Some friends of mine mentioned that all the information I gave them would be available on the voters register anyway (though possibly not my DOB?). I am still undecided whether this is a case of identity theft or some nefarious sales tactic of a telco, but if it is identity theft maybe it is a follow up from someone who looked through my rubbish and found some old bills. I have shredded anything I thought dangerous to throw out but maybe I missed something.
Either way I am moving house tomorrow, so the address info will be out of date by then, and I intend to contact my banks etc and notify them in the morning. I just hope the 1 week turnaround wasnt long enough for someone to get me signed up for 'ocean finance' or some other blood-sucking 'do you want to consolidate all you existing outgoing payments' company.

this sounds like something vodafone would do. they usually offer incentives to try and retain customers.

Ask the network when your contract minimum term is due to expire. IF it has been modified, you'll know the call did indeed come from Vodafone. As noted earlier, it is the kind of thing they do.
