Default vodafone pac question

my mum has been with vodafone on the same contract for 3 years. she wants to leave to go else where but when she phoned up vodafone they said she'd have to write to them and wait 30 days. shouldn't they just give it to her over the phone

her contract expired long ago, does anybody have idea if this is legal or not?

The contract hasn't 'expired' - it will continue to run until she cancels. Best to do this in writing as she has been advised - this eliminates any problems further down the line.

As Barracad says - she needs to give formal notice of cancellation and requesting her PAC (assuming she wants to take her old number with her). This will cause the penultimate bill to be generated, that will NOT have the following month's service charge. HOWEVER, the LAST bill will include all calls made up to the date the contract ceased.

Requesting the PAC code by-passes the need to inform then in writing of your intention to leave and close the contract

Also, the PAC code itself is free of charge but expect a final bill with usage and pro-rata line rental (there is no specific termination fee, just the final bill)

I hope this helps

Unfortunately requesting the pac code does not bypass the need to request it in writing this is standard for the networks now and they will either provide an address or email address to do this.

I can assure you that requesting the PAC code DOES negate the need to write in (I am only referring to Vodafone)

When requesting the PAC code, it is taken as confirmation of intention to close the contract and generates a final bill which can be payed for over the phone at the same time as the PAC request.

To the best of my knowledge this can only be done when outside of the min commitment term.

Porting your mobile number

that explains the PAC process pretty clearly... you can request it anytime, but you may still have to pay the remainder of any contract. Not an issue for the OP as the account holder is out of the minimum term period.

Afraid Scotsdamo is correct. How Vodafone view a PAC request is their business, and their policies can change, leaving you with no proof you indicated you wanted to leave. Secondly, if you have no interest it taking you number anywhere, then asking for a PAC would be ineffective.

For the cost of a stamp, you can avoid situations (described previously) where a PAC code had been issued, but because it had not been activated, the original mobile contract continued as before, leaving the customer liable. As the punter has more to lose than the network, always put your termination in writing - the T&Cs demand it, and if you comply they have absolutely no wriggle room.

I work in the industry and my advice is (as is always the case in all these forums) send a recorded delivery to the address your told also just double up for safety and send an email. One of the most common mistakes made by customers is that they assume that by requesting there pac code that they disconnect, This is not the case unless you definately port the number to another network or between contract and pay n go even if out of contract it will still continue on a 30 day rolling contract

Sorry folks but Voda are going to start asking all customers to write in for contract cancellation and PAC request. I guess that the obstacle of actually having to write will put lots of people off and stop migrations.

You're looking at it the wrong way. Rather than Voda forcing people to write and in your view perhaps not cancel because of this added 'hurdle' - it protects the consumer from their possible inefficiency in processing any other notice of cancellation.
