O2 abandon 3G iPhone on PAYG! O2's plans to offer the new iPhone on pre-pay are in disarray, after first announcing the price on their website (then quickly removing it) as the numbers of those expressing a willingness to sign a contract for the new handset to a serious dip.
Due to be launched simultaneously, the PAYG 3G iPhone was to have a price of £299.99 (8Gb) and £359.99 (16Gb) but with many feeling the the price increase was worth not signing their life away for an O2 mobile phone contract, this would have been counter productive. The pricing has now disappeared, and O2 now say PAYG iPhones will be available 'in time for Xmas'.
This may disappoint some, but another 5 months down the line, the 3G iPhone is going to be very dated when compared to its competitors.
