Lightbulb Un-advertised deals & retention offers.

Just wondering if we could get a sticky to update with deals that go unadvertised (like this one from BT. They never offer unless it's a last resort as the sales person on the phone gets no commision from it!)
Notices 2008 25/08 Calling Plans - Line Connection Special Offer

Also, more and more telecom companies and broadband companies offer retention deals to existing customers when they are out of term.

I just got a discount of £2 per month for the next 12 months, free paper billing forever and a wireless router from talktalk by re-signing with them for 18 months. (I decided to call them as my other half spilled coffee on my old router, and I didn't want to be stuck with the old modem that they originally sent, and I'm too cheep to go out and buy one) I'm with talktalk for landline and broadband.

This information could be very useful to some people... just a thaught.

Its quite amazing what they can come up with if you threaten to leave. I did it with my last contract, and suddenly I was paying half the cost for the next 12 month contract. The only downside, if you can call it that, is that I kept the same phone, but that was fine with me (I like the K800i, and yes, it's ancient now in comparison to what is available, but.. oh well). My original contract isn't available now to new customers, but I can keep it for as long as the demand is there to have it, and can keep renewing every 12 months. I prefer a 12 month contract each time, and as I'm an existing customer (2nd renewal due soon), I don't lose out if I don't take an 18 month contract. Just seems to be the way they work (customer retention).

I'm due for renewal again soon, and I wonder what I'll get offered if I decide to leave again.. lol.

In principle, the sticky is a good idea, but as the offers don't last forever, it would be an admin headache to keep up to date with whats available, and what has been stopped, IMO.

Anyway...

When I worked for BT, if I got someone to re-sign for BT Total Broadband option3 I could offer them £5 off per month and BT Vision for free... so I'd sort the broadband and pass them to BT Vision who would try to sell them extras LOL

Also worthy of note, they'd not have to be out of term... I could offer this if they still had 2 months to run!

Probably less than before as the retention budget calculators take into account any credit or discounts you have received previously.

Most of your retention budget is based on average bill spend, so if you have taken a deal previously where you got, say for example, £15 off line rental, your budget is going to be in the region of £180.00 less than the previous year.

It is not unknown for a retention budget for a customer to be less than £150.00 because of previous deals - in many cases not enough to subsidise a handset or offer any reasonable discount.

Yes... I'm aware of that. I was just pleasantly surprised at the deal they came up with at the first renewal, and as I said, they offered me that deal, as long as I kept the same phone (which was fine with me anyway). By not supplying a phone, that would have been how they managed to offer the deal anyway... I think lol.
