Thumbs down Orange contract phone via DPD UK(parceline)

Last Wednesday (11th June) I placed an order from the Orange website for a contract phone, I would normally just go into the Orange shop to get it but this was an online only deal.
The next day I received and E-Mail telling me to ring Orange to complete the order, this all went fine and I was told that the phone would arrive between 9am and 5pm on the Monday.
Come Monday I waited in all day for the phone to arrive, but to no avail, the phone did not show so I rang Orange, who said that it might arrive up until around 6 or 7 that evening if not it will be on AM priority for the next day (Today). I then checked the tracking on the DPD website and it said they had tried two times to deliver the phone and had left calling cards on both occasions, which was clearly not true as i had been in all of that day and there were no calling cards.
The phone has still not arrived and I am sceptical as to whether it will, as I rang Orange today and all they could say is its on the truck for delivery today and apologised.
I'm going out for a few from about 1 till 4, kind of prime time for delivery so my plan is to leave a note on the door asking for a calling card and for them to deliver it to a neighbour for me to later pick up.
I am also curios as to me going to pick it up from there depot? As I think I need a calling card reference number to be able to do that but I don't see how I can if I don't get a calling card.

All help and advice much appreciated.

Two thoughts:

- A lot of couriers will not leave at a neighbours without prior written consent.
- The depot should release on proof of ID usually.
