Please can someone help me!

At the beginning of march over the phone I decided to go with TT. This was for their phone, and Broadband. On the 31st March they tried to take £46.41 out of my account. I wasn't told that this would be coming out, so I didn't have the money in my bank.I then incurred a £19.50 charge from the bank.

I phoned TT when I found out that they had tried to take this money, and was told by the gentleman that it was my fault as I could have looked on the internet and seen my bill. I tried to explain that it was impossible as I wasn't even connected and they were connecting me on the 11th of april for the broadband.

I then recieved my bill 2 weeks after they tried to take the £46.41 out of my account. I then phoned TT again and stated that I have recieved the bill, and they refused to do anything, although they have now added another £5.00 on top of the orignal amount for the return of the DD.
I then told TT over the phone I no longer wished to have their services, as they hadn't even connected me to broadband, and for the charges I incurred and their refusal to help me. They then stated that if I stayed they would return the bank charge to me and waive the £5.00.

I have now gone with Virgin, and TT are now telling me they are going to get the debt collection agency onto me. Where do I stand, as I had a verbal agreement not a signed. Is there anything that I can do, for less than a month I had the telephone line as there was a dispute with the payment had incoming calls only, and they cut off the landline 23rd april.

thanks.
