Default Unauthorised Entry In Phone Directory

Some advice please.

It has been brought to my attention that I have been placed in the current year's phonebook with authorisation.

I have been ex-directory for a number of years and also registered on the Telephone Preference Service.

Now my full name and address appear in the local phone book. Is there anything I can do as I am now getting sales calls etc., which i haven't got the time of day for.

Whose phone book...? BT's or another compiler? If BT, just call them and ask why (as an Ex-D customer) your line is now listed, and demand a renumber (Free of Charge)

Talk Talk were on watchdog the other evening about this. They even caused a woman & her family fleeing domestic violence severe distress after they printed her details too. She has had to move. And after several attempts to remove details from the phone book, another clients details are in there 3rd year in a row!
Email watchdog too.

To be fair, the 'domestic violence ' they alluded to had been 12 YEARS earlier. The whole piece did seem contrived to fit this scenario including no identification to support this contention. That said, TT suggested it was 'Human Error' - so that made it alright then? Amazing.

I saw that too and was horrified.

Apart from the very clear contract breach, these people were "assured" that the problem would be rectified in the following year's 'phone book, and given £40 as compensation...

One guy had this promise made three years in a row, and his number is still in the 'phone book...

As they've only been going a few years, their 'teething problems' would be unterstandable.... mind you, BT must be laughing themselves silly. Incompetent competition is their best ally.

In the computerised tick box society we live in, I feel that this would be a feeble excuse from TalkTalk.

Peoples' preferences are obviously marked on the contract, and these details are uploaded to a database. Synchronising one database with another is clearly something they do efficiently enough, as all the other details are presumably correct...

No, I believe this is more a case of either human error, in which case someone has "altered" the preference, something that would scare the hell out of me, or else they have simply chosen to ignore the customer request, again something that scares me, but is clearly a breach of data management regulations.

I seriously believe that TalkTalk, and any other company that practices this, should be taken to task and punished very severely...

If its one thing I've learnt from working with Womens Aid; any determined perpetrator will wait, no matter how long ago it happened. I have seen the devastation.
