Default O2 Contract on Credit File Not Mine

Hi, after recently requesting my credit file I noticed that there was an O2 contract on there with 7 months worth of credit history, a few late payments, no major issue though!

Strang thing is ive never had an O2 contract and I wrote to them to query, they sent me a letter with account opening dates and the mobile number etc but I dont recognise any of it! A few of my family members had O2 contracts back when they say I had one but dont recofnise the number.

Sent them a letter today reqesting back-up/proof that the account was actually mine other remove it within 14 days. What else can I do?

I would contact O2 and find out who it is.

Have you rung the number, make sure you block your number showing and pretend you have rung the wrong number just in case you know who this phone belongs to ???? this is just a thought,I would have to try just for the curiosity.

I would let the cra know that this is not your phone immediately, even better if you can get some back up from O2 regarding this.

The number is no long in action, O2 claimed they cut the line after non-payment. Theres about 7 month worth of credit history, couple late payments! Just weird cos ive never had an O2 contract. Anxiously waiting a reply from them to my last letter advising it isnt mine!

its not unheard of for this to happen... best thing is to make sure you keep track of all letters/calls and also write to all three credit ref agencies (experian, call credit and equifax) to advise them of the mishap

hope that helps
