Default Srange calls

Hello All,

Despite being registered with the Telephone Preference Service, and being ex-directory, for many months now I have been getting calls at all hours of the day and night. When I answer the phone is put down, and if I dial 1471 I get a message that the caller has witheld the number.

Sometimes there are three and four calls in a 24hr period, which can go on into the small hours of the next morning.

I know I could buy a device to stop all calls with witheld numbers, but as I am waiting for Operations, this would prevent the hospital getting hold of me.

Any Clues as to how to handle this?

Cheers, midori

perhaps you could contact your telephone provider and ask what service they offer for this type of problem.

These calls are often made by call centres (the selling kind). the numbers dialled automatically by the computer. if you answer and a rep is free, you get put through, if not, the call drops out. very annoying after a while.

Some providers try offering a fee paying product to stop the calls, be insistant that they are nuisance calls so the provider offers a free interception service.

If the call drops because no agent is available, then these are called abandoned calls and there is a regulatory limit on abandoned calls of 3% of all calls in any 24 hour period.

There is also regulation that CLI may not be withheld and there must be a number in response to 1471.

It sounds like this is an overseas call centre - who is not subject to the regulations. Or it may be a misdial from a machine (burglar alarm, etc.) that hangs up because it gets s human response rather than an tone,

If you contact you your provider and explain that they are nuisance calls, they can trace them. I had this with BT and they give you a code to enter on the keypad before you hang up.
