Default Advice on Bill please

Hello,

I have a landline and broadband through BT. I pay £11.00 a month line rental and I receive a bill for the telephone usage every month prior to my DD being collected around 2 weeks after.

At the same time as setting up my landline, I set up the broadband. However I have not received a bill yet. The monthly phone bills say "for any other BT services you will recieve a separate bill".

Today I checked my bank online and found BT have taken £147.71 from me via Direct Debit. I have not set up a direct debit for the broadband as I was advised when setting it up to await my first bill. The operator told me I only needed to set up a DD for the monthly line rental of £11.00 and then I could pay the rest how I wanted (cheque etc).

I do not even know what service I am recieving from BT Broadband (option 1,2 or 3) as I have never heard anything from them since September when I set it all up!

Are they allowed to take money from my bank, using the exisiting DD for the line rental, without me signing a new DD agreement or even receiving a bill. I was told I did not need to set up a DD for all the service as I have already said.

I have received no T&Cs from BT and as far as I am concerned, they have stolen this money from me! As a student, this has put me in a terrible financial position!

You should have been notified that there was a change in the amount BT were going to take, at least 10 working days before they took it.

If this did not happen, then you are guaranteed a full and immediate refund from your bank of the amount paid. Contact your bank and tell them that you wish to have the payment reversed under the Direct Debit Guarantee.
