Angry Vodafone Cancellation Charge

Hi - hope someone can help!
Hubby got into arrears on his mobile and at the beginning of June I paid his arrears of £300. When I paid, I was told over the phone that this was everything paid off and the line had been disconnected (by them) and wouldn't be reconnected.

Today we get an invoice for £89 as a "cancellation charge" due to the early termination of the contract. As we didn't cancel but they did, can Vodafone do this? They can have the phone back if they want.

Any help will be gratefully received before I bury my hubby under the patio!

Put that spade down!!! ring vodafone and ask why you have been charged when they were the ones who disconnected you! how long was the bill outstanding for? if it was a long time they will probably say you didn't conduct the account under their conditions so therefore they have a right to terminate your service. read through t&c's to see if they state this!
