BT - Keeping you informed... BT have announced a few changes to their charging structure, and details are being provided as part of the final page of quarterly/monthly bills. As few of us bother to read them (!) I've highlighted the changes/modifications of particular interest.
From 1st May 2007, calls to the 155 International Operator will remain free, and the operator will continue to give help information and advice as appropriate. International Collect Calls ('Reverse Charge') from Cuba will change from Band C to Band D from 1st May 2007. There will be no changes to the pence-per-minute charge and facility fees for these calls will not change.
Any sockets that BT have not installed themselves are NOT covered under their fault repair service". Their responsibilities end at the Master Socket, so before calling out a faults engineer, if you have an NTE5 socket with a removable lower plate (which disconnects your home wiring) plug a standard phone into the hidden phone socket underneath. If the line works, then the fault is on your property and not with BT.
Changes to Broadband Talk and BT Softphone from 1st April 2007 mean if the account is unused for 90 days they will close the account. Customers wishing to use the service again mus rejoin and create a new account. Charges for customers not paying by Monthly Payment Plan or Direct Debit will apply from 1st May 2007. a 'payment processing fee' will be introduced by BT Payment Services Ltd, a BT Group Company. This fee will apply to customers who pay by other means - even those who remit by PC Banking. The fee will be waived for customers switching to a Payment Plan or DD after the first bill the charge is applied to. Customers on the Light User Scheme, In Contact Plus and Pay & Call are exempt from this charge.
Outgoing calls barred removal charge and charges for ceasing service with BT are changing. A previously announced increase (from £11.75 to £17.50) has been abandoned, and the charge will remain at £11.75. Additionally a £5 admin charge for ceasing a BT line has also been removed.
*They cease to cover their own installed extension sockets after the expiry of the Guarantee period of 12 months.
